Misfortune

*Trigger Warning - Pure Fiction*

It was a day out with my family on a clear sunny day.

We planned out for a boat ride to refresh our minds.

One by one everyone boarded the boat and started off our journey

My niece who has turned 2 years old this April, hardly can contain her excitement of hitting the sea

She loves water.

But seeing water all around her, the excitement gleam was clearly visible in her eyes.

Since the body of the boat wasn't too high, it was easy to put our hands out and connect with nature.

Seeing almost everyone putting their hands out to the sea, my niece decided in the back of head to take a whole leap.

Before we could guess and hold her.

I heard a splash followed by screams.

I jumped right into the sea

I didn't think.

I never learnt to swim even in a shallow pond and I jumped into the sea.

It is stupid yet I think anyone would have jumped to save that tiny little thing without even thinking for a moment.

When I hit the sea, my worries were that she shouldn't hit her darkest days of being an aqua phobic kid.

I caught her and felt my heart pierced seeing her struggle and shiver.

I handed over her to parents and was about to climb onto the boat but the next moment it happened.

A fish that was big and poisonous came out of no where and bit me on my leg that was already wounded when I jumped into the sea.

I screamed with scrunching pain and my family pulled me into the boat before anything worse happens.

We rushed to the shore and I was bleeding profusely.

Due to the poisonous sting, I was slowly losing my consciousness.  

I believe it was my last moment with them and the world.

I warned them that never my niece should know about this incident.

Also, I hold my mother closely and said "Please mummy, inform him that I loved him till my last breath and will forever..

I closed my eyes slowly.
